A blog related to original AI artworks. I make AI artworks using coined words and emoji as prompts.
In this article, I will introduce some of the various images generated by providing words that represent Impressionism and its successors, such as Impressionism, Neo-impressionism, and Post-impressionism, to Stable Diffusion 2.1. It appears that the use of colors in the artwork is more vibrant compared to Impressionist paintings, possibly influenced by the term “Expressionism,” which shares the postfix. Please note that specifying the same words in negative prompts can yield even more diverse images, but I will cover that in a separate article.
Let’s start with examples of “Impressionism”. However, although I generated more than 80 images, no remarkable works have emerged yet.
Many of the paintings depict landscapes with water, such as ponds. The colors in these paintings are more vibrant than those in actual Impressionist paintings, which may be due to their commonality with “Expressionism” and being influenced by Expressionist paintings. These images attempt to imitate the style of pointillism, but due to the low image resolution or excessively coarse dots, they are not successful. Even in the following paintings, some of the “Neo-Impressionist” images fail to achieve the desired pointillist effect.
From Impressionism, I have derived terms like Neoexpressionism and Post-expressionism, which produce images slightly different from Expressionism. Let’s start with “Neo-Impressionism”.
Once again, many of the images depict landscapes with water. Despite not mentioning Vincent van Gogh’s name, these images often show strong influences from his work. Nevertheless, they contain elements that are unique and enjoyable beyond what van Gogh produced.
The top-right painting clearly references van Gogh’s “Starry Night”, although it depicts a landscape with water rather than a land-based scene like the original. While the original artwork shows the influence of pointillism, the dots have been removed during the upsampling process (super-resolution). The website also includes versions that preserve the pointillist effect. The top-left painting exhibits a rather bold color scheme, which may be influenced by expressionism. I think so because “Impressionism” and “Expressionism” shares the spelling “pressionism”.
Next is “Post-Impressionism”.
In terms of color, these images resemble the images generated by “Impressionism” and “Neo-Impressionism”, but the chosen subjects differ. Instead of water landscapes, there are more rural landscapes depicted.
